I'm installing a 180 amp alternator to replace my failed oem TT alternator. I originally planned on installing a secondary 4 awg stranded copper wire from the alternator to battery in parralel with the original alternator to battery wire. I purchased a 150 amp breaker to use between the new wire and the battery. The original wire would remain going through the fusible link. An additional ground cable would also be added. Now I'm having second thoughts about what would be safest. Should I have both the new and old wire go through the 150 amp breaker only? I fear the 150 amp breaker and fusible link in parralel would give too much amp capacity and not enough protection against short circuit conditions. Am I over thinking this? What would you guys recomend?
